Dr. Andrew Hamilton, associate vice provost of student success and dean of undergraduate studies at UNC Greensboro recently sat down with the Yes, And Café podcast run by Professors Omar Ali and Nadja Cech to discuss the challenges students and faculty are facing during this pandemic.
A few takeaways…
- There’s a difference in telling your students you care and showing them. “I always like to say, students are people too.” They respond to their professors showing up for them and that remains true in this season of virtual learning.
- Be overly communicative.
- If you’re able, look at what changes can be made policy-wise to give students more flexibility in the short-term. Offer Pass/Fail grading and increase the number of classes a student can drop.
